Nigerian Celebrity Network was inspired by a groups?vision to reform the negative image and portrayal of the entire country amidst constant ongoing scrutiny and unjust treatment from individuals of various countries all over the world.
Nigeria has a wealth of human resources that ranks amongst the best creative talents in the world and some of the celebrities that the country has produced are forces to be reckoned with globally in terms of their creativity.
The NETWORK was created out of a group's frustration at the Nigerian government's seemingly futile effort in cleaning up the mess that a few selfish, unscrupulous and deceitful bunch have succeeded in enveloping the entire population; frustration at thehopelessness and helplessness of hard working, intelligent and talented majority of the country's population who look on in absolute dismay, disapproval and disarray at the persistent perception of their ways of life built upon thousands of years of rich cultural and moral foundation that has defined the people of Nigeria.
Amidst all these frustration and disappointment, the people of Nigeria realize that an unscrupulous few have managed to taint the image of the country but are also of the realization that every country has its bunch of deceitful and criminal minded citizens who cannot fathom the idea of making an honest and decent living but have resolved to defrauding the weak in order to feel strong. Every country has its own fair share of a "Judas amongst the twelve".
The NETWORK comprise of Nigerian Celebrities who have come together; unified in our belief that the image of the country has suffered enough and the time has arrived to stand for positive changes in the way the country is perceived internationally. These celebrities aim at creating a positive impact in the socio-economic and artistic perception of our people who go about their day to day lives working hard to make Nigeria a better place to live in.
Our celebrities are saying "enough is enough" and we are taking back the power from negative credentialing and portrayal. It is time the world realize that our people are hardworking professionals and morally upright in their daily lives. We are united to give credence and a voice to the voiceless; a face to the faceless. We are using this platform to correct the injustice that the citizens of our nation are being subjected to on a daily basis all around the world.
The first thing that comes to the mind of most people when they hear the word "Nigerian" is that of a "scumbag", a "crook" and a "fraudster". People form a negative image in their mind once they discover that they are dealing with a Nigerian. They look and treat us differently without giving us a fair chance to be perceived differently. This image is conjured in the minds of people all over the world because of all the negative publicities that the country has been getting lately especially as it relates to scams and fraud.
Anyone who has been watching the news lately, reading the newspapers or has access to the internet must have come across reports by journalists, writers and internet bloggers about countless emails that are being sent out to people globally to scam them of their money.
Reports have been put out there that these scam artists are Nigerians even when they are not. Some of these reports have defied the norm of journalism which demands "fairness" when reporting a story and have defied the judicial law of "innocent until proven guilty".
This is not to say that some of the reports are not properly investigated or not true, we are simply asserting that scamming could be done by anybody in any country from any part of the world. It is not a standard rule that Nigerians are the bulk of scam artist out there; every country has its own fair share in this problem that has become a huge menace to the global village.
Our celebrities are not left out of this equation as they are facing insurmountable odds to penetrate the foreign market. Most of them are not given a fair chance but are labeled according to the image created in the minds of international colleagues.
This has affected our celebrities in more ways than one as we have been placed in a difficult situation of having to work twice as hard as our counterparts to be accorded an opportunity. The time for change is now and we are taking a bold step to fight back for our rightful place in the international society.
That is what we stand for.
